Malaria deaths in Africa

Since January 1, 2003,
  • people have been afflicted by malaria; and of these,
  • have died.
  • of these deaths were pregnant women or children under the age of five.

That's one needless, premature death every 10.5 seconds.

The vast majority of these malaria cases are in the developing world, where the burden on their health care systems can be least afforded. 90% of cases and deaths in Africa. The toll in human misery and suffering is horrendous.

Since you loaded this page,
  • more people have been afflicted by malaria and
  • more people have died of this infection.

  • Original script ideas came from a population counter and were made into a malaria counter by Barry Hearn at EVAG.
  • The counter is based on numbers which are within range of statistics quoted by the UN, WHO, and MFI.
  • For more specific statistics about malaria, see the links on www.anopheles.com/numbers.html.
  • Script corrections, flexibility, and Y2K compliance accomplished by Allen Olson at SCOPE.
