About Us
Medilinks's
mission is to help strengthen and improve the delivery of healthcare in
Africa.

Medilinks site is
an online source of accurate, relevant, concise medical and health
related information for Africa. It is aimed at doctors, healthcare professionals,
policy and decision makers in health related fields and all groups of
people who have a need or interest to keep informed and up to date about
multiple areas of medicine and public health concerning Africa

to promote informed debate and exchange of information between Africans
by publishing articles about the health problems facing Africa. Each edition
will focus on particular health problem facing African countries as a
whole. Topics will include HIV/AIDS, Malaria, TB, Childhood diseases,
Maternal and perinatal conditions, as well as environmental and socioeconomic
issues.
Doctors and healthcare
professionals
that have remained in Africa, face the problems of poor availability of
critical health and medical information - both for practice and teaching.
Medilinks will provide a service as an online source of accurate,
relevant, concise medical and health related information about Africa
and enable healthcare professionals remain informed in multiple areas
of medicine and public health concerning Africa.
Medilinks recognises a large amount of information
applicable to developing nations, ranging from public health to specialist
medical information is available in electronic form at a number of western
institutions. Although these institutions are willing to share this information
with their African counterparts there aren't enough resources in place
to effectively share this information. Medilinks will act as a
central point of medical and health related knowledge about Africa. It
will provide a medium for the forecasting of important issues and trends
in medicine and health care in Africa as well as improving public health
in Africa by elevating the quality of medical care, disease prevention,
and research provided by an informed readership.
For decades, African healthcare professionals
have been generating valuable research and knowledge in respect of their
regional, national and local areas. With the near collapse of a number
of African economies, medical professionals have found avenues such as
traditional publishing research and subscribing to medical journals, holding
conferences or workshops to exchange ideas far too expensive and much
of this information has been locked away. Medilinks will promote
the exchange of health information in Africa by publishing original, important,
well-documented, peer-reviewed articles on a diverse range of health and
medical topics.
Medilinks is a resource that is aimed at health
care deliverers / professionals, policy and decision makers as well as
all people who have a need or are interested in health in Africa. It will
provide a forum to foster responsible and balanced debate on controversial
issues that affect medicine and health care in Africa. Medilinks
will keep readers informed about other aspects of medicine and public
health in Africa, including socio-economic, political, ethical, legal,
environmental, and cultural issues and work to provide a service that
will be available and accessible to all healthcare professionals/ deliverers
wherever they maybe.
